My first Ice Breaker

On My Ice Breaker Speech at Toastmasters: Gratitude, Growth, and Grace

Today I presented my Ice Breaker speech at Toastmasters — just a glimpse into things I’ve experienced. And I’m so grateful.

Grateful for the feedback, because I truly want to grow as a speaker. I used notes this time, but I spoke — and I spoke with confidence. My hope is to one day step up without that aid. One step at a time.

Some of the comments were: “more eye contact,” “smile,” and “love the title you chose.” And that meant the world to me. I had people in the room who related to lace fronts, who nodded during the hard parts, who told me my story was powerful.

One person even said, “I wish I could have recorded it — it was well composed.”

I read every comment. I’m holding onto each one. Not to inflate my ego, but to build my confidence to do better next time. Because that’s what Toastmasters is about.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being present. It’s about being brave enough to share a piece of your truth, and humble enough to let feedback shape you.

It’s about walking to the lectern scared, and walking away stronger.

Thank you to everyone who listened, who related, who encouraged me. Your words are water to the seeds I’m planting.

I’m not just learning to speak. I’m learning to believe my voice matters.

And that is beautiful.
