Interview

In today’s interview I said something that’s been on my heart for years: we are more similar than different.

We are part of the human race, and each of us contributes to global awareness. We are more than our religious and cultural attributes — we are part of something bigger. Something holy. Something connected.

I saw this in my work as a youth with Global Teen Club International, and it’s what my mother always instilled in me: love people, learn from people, see people. Just going overseas to Denmark taught me that. Sitting with people who spoke a different language but laughed the same way, who worried about their kids the same way, who prayed for peace the same way — it changes you.

It is so important to have a global awareness. We are small, and the world is small, instead of viewing ourselves as large and the world as small. When you realize how connected we all are, pride falls away. Fear falls away. What’s left is compassion.

That’s what makes me continue to work for greater. Not just for a paycheck, not just for a title, but for the chance to remind someone — in Salem, in Denmark, in a panel interview — that we belong to each other.

We are more similar than different. And that truth can heal a lot.
