Different Paths, Deeper Looks
A PhD student and the average Facebook user aren’t on the same road — and that’s okay.
One is trained to look within, to sit with a question, to analyze a situation from every angle. Years of study build a kind of muscle: critical thinking. Research. Patience. The ability to hold two opposing ideas and still seek truth.
The other might open Facebook for comfort, for connection, for a quick laugh after a l ong day. And that’s human, too.
But here’s what I’ve learned: depth changes you. When you’ve spent nights wrestling with a thesis at 2am, when you’ve been taught to question, to evaluate, to think — you start seeing the world differently. You don’t just react. You reflect. You lookwithin before you look around.
That doesn’t make you better than anyone. But it does make you responsible.
Because with wisdom comes a calling: to listen deeply, to speak carefully, and to help others rise, too. Not to look down from an ivory tower, but to reach a hand back and say, “Here’s what I’ve learned about looking within.”
So whether you’re writing a dissertation or scrolling a feed — ask yourself: “Am I thinking critically? Am I growing? Am I using what I know to serve?”
The goal isn’t to be the smartest in the room. It’s to be the most awake.
And awake people — PhD or not — change the world.
