A Message Of Hope: One Human Family

A Message of Hope: One Human Family

To my community, from Pittsburg to Concord, Richmond, San Francisco, Oakland, and Walnut Creek:

The Bahá’í teachings remind us: “The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.” When a hospital closes, when schools fail some children, when opportunity feels unequal — it hurts all of us. Because we are one body. When one part suffers, the whole body feels it.

I’ve walked Las Lomas halls and Mt. Diablo’s classrooms. I’ve seen how systems can sort kids into “special ed” instead of special purpose. I’ve seen how systemic racism tilts the playing field in Pittsburg, in Richmond, in every zip code where promise gets buried under policy.

But I’ve also seen resurrection. I’ve seen what happens when one person rises and reaches back. The Bahá’í Faith calls this service. Not charity from above, but shoulder to shoulder — teaching each other how to be independent, how to heal from brokenness, how to build new patterns.

Real unity isn’t sameness. It’s distinction with love. It’s knowing the difference between religion as rules and spirituality as connection — that breath that ties us to something greater than ourselves. You can’t legislate that connection. You live it. You model it. You invite it.

Walnut Creek showed me different opportunities. Pittsburg gave me my roots. Both taught me this: There has to be “cheese for everyone” — dignity, education, safety, a fair start. Some of us need to exit old cycles. All of us need to rise.

So let’s come together. Let’s consult, not condemn. Let’s educate every child like they’re the light of the world — because they are. Let’s replace confusion with clarity, prejudice with fellowship.

“So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.” — Bahá’u’lláh

From the ashes, we build. From the pit, we plant. From every city, we rise — together.

With hope and determination,

A neighbor in the Bay
